Vegans & Vegetarians making a difference!

Hello friends. I think it is great to have this all vegetarian/vegan community page. I, as I am sure a lot of you, are used to people cracking jokes about how bad tofu tastes when you tell someone you don't eat meat. And you think to yourself how ridiculous these people sound, and you know in your own mind, that the food you eat is indeed delicious and you have the moral upperhand in this debate.

There is one, and only one good argument that people who eat meat can make that has validity to it. That one argument is that meat tastes good. Of course it does, or we non-meat eaters wouldn't try to emulate the taste of it constantly. That is the one, and the only one thing a meat eater can say that you simply can't object to. Now, this obviously makes this person very selfish, and they will often admit to you their selfishness. But they will go on. "I could never give up meat." That is the number one thing I hear from people. Funny enough, the same exact line I used against the few vegetarians I met before I turned 19 and became a vegetarian.

The best way to convert people is not to rub shit in their face. Putting up pictures of dead animals and slaughter houses can be effective, but the extreme always turns people away. To lead by example is the best way to convert. When I meet someone, the first thing they know about me is not that I am a vegetarian. They get to know me first, see how normal and smart I am before I tell them that I am a crazy vegetarian. I used to, when I first switched over, went off on people and got extremley emotional when talking about this subject. Bad idea. I know it is easy to get emotional when talking about this subject, but it turns people away. Tell them your case. Show them who you are as a person. Shoot down their false arguments that meat is good for you with facts. This is a process. The world will be a better place when we all give up this unhealthy, enviromentaly unfriendly and morally crude act of meat eating.

And to all the vegans: I applaud your convicitons. Vegetarians and vegans are on the same page. Vegans should not be going after vegetarians to convert. Again, it is a process. If you tell a regular meat eater who has never met a vegetarian in his or her life that they should convert to veganism, they will shut down the idea faster than they can process it. Veganism is the extreme side of vegetarianism and is met for activists. So when a vegan tells me that the chesse I am eating is rape, they are barking up the wrong tree. We must embrace each other, and go at this together. When you get someone to just think about giving up just one aspect of meat eating, you are saving innocent lives. So to the vegetarians who eat fish or chicken, it is better than nothing. We need to be united on this. Vegetarians and vegans need to lead by example. Show off our health and positive outlook on life. Giving up meat seemed like the hardest thing in the world when I was 19, but looking back on it, and being vegetarian from almost 6 years, it is so easy. The thought of putting meat in my mouth makes my stomach turn. Thank you for reading, and peace and love to you and everyone in this world!

I don't find veganism to be extreme at all. It is what you make it. For lots of people I know that have gone vegan it's easier than moving to a new apartment.

I agree no matter what level of veg*n you are, we are all at least doing something. Most people don't even try.

As for vegetarians that eat chicken and fish...they aren't vegetarian. You either eat meat or you don't. Fish and chicken are not vegetables. It gives a very wrong impression when those people call themselves vegetarians yet are still killing animals. it defeats the purpose. They should simply say they don't eat red meat.

Anyway welcome to the website! What was hard for you to convert when you were 19? My only problem was my parents and trying to find food to eat on road trips. Damn the south...
