Story by Don Harris from WOAI:
The Spurs Manu Ginobili has reinjured his ankle.
The injury happened Friday as Manu's Argentinian team went up against Team U.S.A.
There is no question it was the Spurs worst fear. Not that the U.S.A. would lose to Manu and the team from Argentina, but that the Spurs would lose Manu.
Manu went down in the 1st quarter of Friday's game against the U.S. He reinjured the tendon in his left ankle and did not return.
It's the same injury that Coach Pop and the Spurs were so cautious about earlier this summer when they said they did not want Manu to play. And the news is not good.
Ole Sports of Argentina reports:
"For now it is unknown how serious the injury is. But the medical team said Ginobili will not play in the bronze medal game. Team doctor Diego Grippo said that "the ligament is very inflamed" and it would be "almost impossible" for Manu to play Sunday against Lithuania."
The Spurs have not commented yet. However, with just a month before training camp begins, there's not doubt they are concerned.
Spurs team doctors will look at the ankle when Manu returns. The worry is whether or not surgery might be an option.
